The valley is a tough place to be. We tend to want to sprint through it to get to the other side. Don’t run through the valley; walk through it calmly. Better yet, DANCE!
The Lord says:
“Walk with me. Don’t run ahead of me. I have things to say, teach, and heal in this place. If you run ahead of me to get out of your discomfort, you will miss our time together and the work I need to do here.
There are things I cannot do on the mountain top. When it is time, you will climb to those heights. Just walk with me for a while. I promise you won’t regret it. I promise to stay with you the whole time. Keep my pace the whole way. When it’s time, we will climb the mountain together.
Rest in the valley with me. The climb will be steep. You will need the tools I provide in the valley to climb with ease. Just walk WITH me, my child. Hold my hand. The valley doesn’t have to be a lonely place. When you meet me here, let’s walk together. Let’s do it together.
You can’t run through the valley; walk through it with confidence, knowing that I am with you in this place. Press into me. Lean your ear to me. Keep my step. I will show you the way. Open your eyes to see what I want to show you here.
Trust me with each step and corner. From the mountain, you can see far. You have to trust me to guide you in the valley since you cannot see as far ahead. I love it when you lean on me and let me show you the way. Find me in the valley so we can walk through it together.”
The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord Meets Us in the Valley
Some of the most significant growth periods in my faith walk have come out of the valley. But I used to want to run through them as fast as I could. Then, I learned to walk through them and allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in me that I needed for my next level. But the best part…I’ve not only learned to walk calmly and confidently knowing Jesus has my hand, I’ve also discovered I can DANCE through them. You can too!
